Château La Nerthe | Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Château La Nerthe in Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Château La Nerthe is one of those domains whose values of excellence, longevity and elegance have earned it the position of first among equals within the historic properties of Châteauneuf du Pape. Located at the heart of Provence in southeast France, this is a magical domaine and one of the oldest in the region, with cellars dating back to the 16th Century and its striking Château built in the 18th century. Since 1985 it has been owned by the Richard family who also own estates in Tavel, Beaujolais and Bordeaux.

The Château La Nerthe vineyard is a mosaic of 57 plots representing all the different terroirs and grape varieties of the appellation and has been cultivated organically since 1998. The vines cover 92 hectares, 60 of which are around the Château and 32 a few hundred meters further east on the famous Crau plateau. Biodiversity is a key focus on the domaine: there are woodlands around the vineyard, and the team encourage birds and bats as a natural way to defend against insects, reducing the need for treatments. The property is fortunate to have a natural spring within its grounds which is incredibly beneficial to the vines in this often drought-prone region.

Château La Nerthe produces red and white wines renowned among the best of the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation.
