Domaine de Baronarques vineyards in Limoux

The Domaine de Baronarques estate is located near Limoux in the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region of France. The property was purchased in 1998 by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her two sons, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild. Since its purchase the vineyards and winemaking facilities have been extensively renovated.

Domaine de Baronarques has 43 hectares (106 acres) of vines with a diversity of soils and micro-climates which give the wines complexity and elegance. The estate is planted with 70% Bordeaux varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc) and 30% Mediterranean varieties (Syrah, Grenache and Malbec) and a small plot dedicated entirely to Chardonnay.

The estate’s identity is fashioned to a great extent by two contrasting climates; Mediterranean, guaranteeing optimum sunshine and Atlantic, bringing often welcome rain during times of drought. In addition, being not far from the Pyrenees, the grapes grow at an altitude that tempers the summer heat (250 to 350 metres).

The vineyard is tended with scrupulous attention to every detail with the aim of producing the finest red and white wines. Produced and vinified in the hallowed Bordeaux tradition, the wines from Domaine de Baronarques now set the standard within one of France’s oldest wine-growing regions.
