Far Niente Winery

One of California's oldest stone built wineries, Far Niente ('without a care') was founded in the 19th century and flourished until prohibition. Abandoned for over 60 years, the winery was purchased in 1979 by Gil Nickel, who made his fortune out of garden centres and raced vintage sports cars. He started the long process of restoring it and embarked upon a quest to produce outstanding wines of distinctive character, dedicated to the production of the finest Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, Far Niente own 200 acres (3 different vineyard sites) of what many regard as some of the finest vineyard land in the Napa Valley and worldwide demand for their wines always exceeds supply.
