Finca Valpiedra | Rioja Alta

Finca Valpiedra Winery in the heart of the Vineyards

Finca Valpiedra is a single Rioja Alta vineyard of spectacular quality; so good in fact, that Familia Martínez Bujanda, decided to build a winery in the middle of it to look after its concentrated aromatic fruit. The 80-hectare estate is located on a meander in the river Ebro, between Fuenmayor and Cenicero, and it is here that the unique pebbly soils (not too dissimilar to the 'galets roulés' found in the Rhône) give rise to the name Valpiedra. These stones 'piedra' help the vineyards to retain the heat of the sun and help in ripening, while inhibiting the dehydration of the vines by preventing the rapid evaporation of water on warm summer days. The winery at Finca Valpiedra works more along the lines of a Bordeaux château than a typical Rioja bodega and the estate is in fact the only Rioja winery to be a member of the 'Grands Pagos de España' - Great Single Estates of Spain.
