Domaine André Dezat et Fils | Sancerre
The famous André Dezat made a name for this Domaine over 40 years ago and today it is now in the safe hands of his sons Louis and Simon Dezat and their respective sons Arnaud and Firmin. The Dezats’ 20 hectares of Sancerre are superbly situated around five villages. The low yields, and enormous care in the vineyards and cellars make for only the finest Sancerre.
Their 15 hectares of Sancerre Blanc comes from an assortment of terroirs; flint, calcareous clay and pebbly limestone. At the winery a pneumatic press is used and a long alcoholic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel. The Sancerre Blanc Cuvée Prestige comes from an old vine plot on “Terre Blanche”, limestone and clay. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented and aged in a combination of new, one and two year old barrels (one third each). The wines undergo bâtonnage every 2 weeks and spend 10 months on their fine lees before being bottled the August after harvest.
The Sancerre Rosé comes from their Pinot Noir holdings on flint and pebbly clay and limestone land. The grapes undergo a cold maceration before being pressed. Depending on the year, the Dezats may use the saignée method for a maximum of 20% of the total volume.
The Dezat's also own Domaine Thibault in Pouilly Fume, one of the finest of Pouilly Fumés. Some years ago, André Dezat bought 4.5 hectares of particularly well-sited vineyard near Tracy, which has been expanded a little each year to a total of 15 hectares, with parcels in other communes including St. Andelain and Nozet.
