Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon Corcelette 2018

Having recently taken over from their father, brother and sister team Louis-Benoît and Claude- Emmanuelle Desvignes are making some of the most exciting wines in the village of Morgon, one of the top crus of Beaujolais. They make wines without using any oak, allowing the grapes and soil to express themselves. 100% Gamay. This Morgon is their second bottling from the famous climat of Corcelette located to the north of the village. Louis-Benoît and Claude Emanuelle have been interested in exploring terroir in Morgon outside of their usual estate parcels, and the short 2016 and 2017 vintages in their own vineyards gave them added motivation. The particular parcel is made up of 40-year-old vines on sandy pink granite soils on a southeast-facing hillside in the western part of Corcelette. The hand-harvested fruit was vinified like all other Desvignes wines: fermented in open-top concrete vats, with a maceration of 12-13 days and with a submerged cap. Medium ruby in colour with vibrant purple highlights, the nose offers lifted, floral top notes and fresh raspberry fruit, while the palate is juicy, crunchy and energetic. There is a gentle sweetness to the red cherry fruit which marries seamlessly with the fine and chalky tannins.

"Lurid magenta. Displays expansive red/blue fruit, violet, exotic spice and mineral qualities on the highly perfumed nose. Offers appealingly sweet raspberry and boysenberry flavors that deepen and take on a spicy aspect as the wine opens up. Shows excellent clarity and solid floral thrust on an impressively long, seamless finish that features even tannins and lingering blue fruit character."

"A cuvée produced from purchased grapes, the 2018 Morgon Corcelette derives from a parcel that's situated at the comparatively high elevation of 470 meters and characterised by poor, decomposed granite soils. Revealing notes of blackberries, cassis, raspberries and grilled meat, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny, with a charming, expansive profile and fine tannins concealed in succulent fruit. This is a head-turning Corcelette that's already hard to resist."
