Gérard Bertrand Or & Azur Rouge 2018
Gérard Bertrand is one of the most outstanding winemakers in the South of France, where he owns numerous estates among the most prestigious crus of the Languedoc-Roussillon. Formerly the International Wine Challenge Red Winemaker of the Year and Wine Enthusiast's European Winery of the Year, he is known locally as the "King" of the Languedoc. The 'Or & Azur' Rouge is certified both organic and Bee Friendly. The Bee Friendly certification is issued by the French body for sustainable development, ‘Ecocert Environnement’ and is based on specific criteria designed to protect bees and pollinators including prohibiting the use of pesticides identified as harmful to pollinators and installing apiaries on the estates. In partnership with beekeepers, bees have now taken up residence at the Château l'Hospitalet among other estates of the Gérard Bertrand group.
This Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%) red wine blend delivers layered aromas of wild strawberry and fresh blackcurrant, underlined by notes of spice and garrigue. The fine and silky palate is full of ripe berried fruit and is interwoven with an elegant mineral streak. A great match with roast chicken or sausage and mash.
