Coopers Creek Gisborne Malbec 2016

The Coopers Creek Malbec is sourced from Gisborne, a region ideally suited to the the grape. Spring comes early and the summers are warm and sunny, which is just the sort of conditions that Malbec loves. The fruit was harvested in pristine condition and trucked overnight to the Coopers Creek winery in Auckland, where following vinification, the wine was matured for around a year in barrel. The colour in this wine is stunning. A black core leads to a bright red-purple rim. The nose offers plummy notes intermingled with the ‘wild berry’ character that typifies New Zealand Malbec. On the palate this full bodied red has an excellent balance between fruit, acid and tannin. The overall effect is to coat the palate from front to back and side to side. There is a strong core of sweet black fruit on the finish.

Find out more on our Delivery Page

Delivery Times

We aim to to have your delivery with you within 5-7 working days of receiving your order, but often it can be much sooner. If you need your order by a certain date please get in touch and we'll do our best to get it to you as required.

Vintage Availability

We endeavour to display accurate and current vintages on all our wines listed on the website; however, from time to time stocks of the vintage listed do become exhausted. If this is the case with your order we will always contact you to recommend another vintage of the same wine, if it is still available. If the vintage of a wine is important to you then please leave a note at checkout advising us of this.

Stock Availability

As we are retail stockists, selling from our Ledston shop as well as online, it makes it difficult for us to show a 'real-time' inventory of our wines and spirits online. As such, very occasionally, a wine may be out of stock that the website has allowed you to order.

To ensure a timely delivery, we are happy to substitute your order with a similar wine of equal or higher value and at no additional cost to you!

If this is not an acceptable solution please advise us in the 'Add A Comment' section at the checkout.

Sommelier Wine Awards
Gold - Sommelier Wine Awards 2019

With its ‘lovely ripe fruit, balance and length’, team leader Laurent Richet MS
was happy to award this a Gold, adding that it was ‘juicy, fleshy and meaty, with
coffee aromatics’, and suggesting it would work well with ‘venison or leg of lamb’.
Francesca Turra of Mondrian London suggested it would certainly work with
‘fatty dishes’ and Mattia Mazzi of The River Cafe thought that this Malbec was
more ‘in a Cahors style, as it’s drier and fresher’.
