Band of Vintners Consortium Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Band of Vintners is a group of Napa Valley friends with more than four decades of diversified winemaking knowledge, who created a label based on the simple fact that high-quality wines can be delicious and affordable. To make this possible, they pooled their resources, talents and invaluable relationships to access some of Napa Valley’s best, sustainably-farmed fruit and all the winemaking necessities to get their wine into bottle. The result is Consortium, a symphony of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at a price that is music to everyone’s ear. 2016 was a perfect vintage for Cabernet Sauvignon. A cool, wet winter led to deeper, darker skins and a warm spring / summer fostered slow, balanced ripening and vibrant, red fruit. The acid and fine tannins will allow for complexity to develop over the next 3-5 years in bottle, but the overall balance of the vintage allows for this wine to be enjoyed now. A blend of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (92%) plus Merlot (6%) and Cabernet Franc (2%), all aged 15 months in French oak. Plenty of luscious blackberry, blackcurrant and plum fruit on the nose and palate, with accents of dark chocolate, graphite, and coffee and just a touch of oak spice. Solid and steak-friendly tannins bring up the end and nicely frame the lingering flavours of black fruit, cedar, spice and dark chocolate.
