Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2016
Château La Nerthe, Châteauneuf-du-Pape red, is the soul of the estate’s wines and has been exported across the globe since the eighteenth century. The assemblage of this wine is Grenache (37%), Syrah (29%), Mourvèdre (27%) and Cinsault (7%) sourced from vines grown across the different soil types within the wine appellation, allowing this wine to fully express the complexity of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The base wines are matured in large oak barrels for 12 months before blending and then a further 6 months rest in bottle prior to release. The dark, deep, inky colour of the wine shows immediately the concentration of the vintage. Nose of blackcurrants, black tea, dried flowers are to the fore. The palate is rich, fruity and velvety, with an incredibly layered tannin structure. The wine is balanced, pure, really intense and long with incredible ageing potential.
