De Martino La Cancha Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
The De Martino La Cancha is a classic Cabernet Sauvignon and the family's best expression of the grape variety. Grapes are sourced from a single vineyard in Isla de Maipo, that for many years was a football pitch (or “cancha” in Spanish), hence its name. The manually harvested grapes were 100% de-stemmed before a wild ferment in stainless steel, followed by 5 days’ post-fermentative maceration. The malolactic fermentation was completed in the tank and then the wine was matured in 2,500-litre foudres for 24 months. The wine reveals fresh aromas of blackcurrants and violets, together with complex notes of tobacco leaf, cedar and graphite. On the palate it is medium-bodied with intense, ripe fruit, balanced by elegant, fine tannins, vibrant acidity and moderate alcohol. It has depth and weight in the mouth, along with a long and persistent finish. This wine can be enjoyed while still youthful, but it has sufficient structure to develop greater complexity over the next 15-20 years.
