Katnook Estate Prodigy Shiraz 2014
The Katnook Estate Prodigy Shiraz is produced only in exceptional vintages where superior quality is achieved. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, it is a seamless blend of intense fruit and extended oak maturation. The first vintage of this wine was in 1997 and it won Australia's most prestigious trophy, the Jimmy Watson. This vintage of Prodigy matured for 25 months in a combination of new and used French and American oak. Deep plum in colour the nose exhibits a complex array of fruit, oak and subtle maturation aromas. There is an attractive combination of raspberry and plum fruits with hints of liquorice, vanilla and light toast adding depth to the fruit aromas. The palate is richly layered with generous fruit and oak. Raspberry and plum fruit with a touch of spice are seamlessly integrated with premium oak. Fine, mouth filling tannins are in harmony with the well-rounded palate structure and lingering finish.
The full flavours of Prodigy will suit rich gamey meats such as venison or chargrilled aged steak with pepper sauce. Also the perfect accompaniment for a selection of hard cheeses served with brioche, paté and quince paste.
