Kraal Bay Pinotage 2018

Kraal Bay is named after the Kraalbaai area in South Africa's West Coast National Park, where the Pulpit Rock is also an iconic landmark. Besides being a site of spectacular scenic beauty on the coast of the Swartland wine region, Kraalbaai is famous for the discovery of 'Eve's footprint' - a fossilised set of 117,000 year old female footprints. To highlight the red fruit of both parents of Pinotage namely, Pinot Noir and Cinsault, fermentation on the skins is slowed by strict temperature control. The extended fermentation period ensures maximum extraction of flavour and colour, while working gently with the skins avoids astringent flavours. The wine is aged for up to 12 months in French oak for good integration of flavour before being blended with a component of un-oaked wine to enhance fresh, red fruit flavours. Emphasising its Pinot Noir parentage, this unique wine, sustainably crafted from protected old bush vine Pinotage, offers abundant fresh cherries, ripe plums and a hint of spice and smoke with a smooth, lingering finish. Kraal Bay Pinotage is an exceptionally food friendly wine and pairs well with rare beef or game dishes. In summer enjoy slightly chilled.
