Lapostolle Cuvée Alexandre Merlot 2014

The Lapostolle Cuvée Alexandre Merlot is a unique single vineyard red wine carefully selected from steep hillside parcels, planted over granitic soil, on Lapostolle's famous Apalta estate. All grapes are hand harvested and once at the winery strict fruit selection is undertaken by a combination of hand de-stemming and optical state-of-the-art Vistalys. For the 2014 vintage 13% Carménère was added into the blend to enhance the spicy character of this variety. The Cuvée Alexandre Merlot was then aged for 13 months in French oak barrels (42% New). Ruby red in colour the nose displays red fruit aromas such as cherry and strawberry with fresh herb aromas and a touch of vanilla. The palate is medium bodied, silky and elegant with plum and cherry flavours.
