Ornellaia Poggio Alle Gazze 2013

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Poggio Alle Gazze is a white wine blend dominated by the Sauvignon Blanc grape alongside additions of Viognier, Vermentino and Verdicchio grapes. The separate lots of must are put in a combination of barriques (new and used), in steel tanks, and in concrete and oak vats. The wine was matured on the fine lees for 6 months, with regular bâttonage throughout the period, followed by the assemblage of the final blend. After a light fining, it rested an additional 12 months in the bottle before release.

The high proportion of Sauvignon Blanc in the blend dominates the aromas with classic notes of citrus, tropical fruit, lifted by a subtly sweet florality. Crisp and vibrant on the palate, it offers fruit that is notably vivacious and self-confident. Quite rich and with good weight, the impressions of sweetness derived from the sur lie maturation are well balanced with the zesty acidity, which drives a mineral-laden finish of impressive length.
