Stonecroft Serine Syrah 2014

The Stonecroft Serine Syrah is made from organic fruit grown in the Gimblett Gravels Wine Growing District of Hawkes Bay. Matured for 18 months in French oak barrels (25% new) this is an ideal red for the cellar. Deep ruby red in colour the nose offers dense black fruit aromas with savoury notes of game and a hint of spice. The palate has rich black fruit flavours of blackberry and black cherry alongside subtle hints of white pepper and vanilla.

The name ‘Serine’ came about after speculation over the origin of the estates' oldest Syrah vines, which are the oldest Syrah vines in New Zealand. At one stage, it was thought the clone of Syrah might be Serine. That was never established but the name stuck.
