The Eyrie Vineyards Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2015
The Eyrie Vineyards was founded in 1965, when David Lett planted the first Pinot Noir in Oregon's Willamette Valley. The blend combines Pinot from Eyrie’s certified organic estate vineyards (approximately 70%) with fruit from other certified organic old-vine sites. Picked by hand, the grapes are de-stemmed and put into a variety of different sized fermenters where the wine ferments naturally and ages slowly, with 18 months in barrel to clarify without filtration. The resulting wine has an appealing transparency of flavours that veer from spice to wild plum then violets, then a bittersweet, salty hedgerow note and stony, ferrous minerality towards the finish. Texture and delicacy are the hallmarks here, with surprising depth of fruit for a wine that demands so little.
