The Wine Merchants Rioja Crianza by Bodegas Amézola de la Mora 2015

The Wine Merchants Rioja Crianza is and excellent value red wine made by sisters Maria and Cristina Amézola with a little help from celebrated Bordeaux oenologist Georges Pauli. Their bodega is situated in the area of Torremontalbo, which is reflected in the name on the label. Aged for 12 months in barrel in a mix of 60 percent American and 40 percent French oak this wine has classic notes of a traditional-style Rioja, yet has a depth and length which lifts it above other examples at this price point.

Blackberry and fresh red cherry develop into a rounded, rich palate brimming with dark fruit, chocolate and a subtle hint of sweet vanilla. The power of this wine is evident, yet it is smooth and supple with real depth. Warming, familiar notes of cured meats and leather add a complex twist to the long and rewarding finish.
