Pintia 2017/18
Vega Sicilia’s owners, the Álvarez family, bought Bodegas Pintia in 1996, attracted to the galet-strewn terroir in the northern Spanish region of Toro. They decided to produce an alternative expression of Vega Sicilia’s style of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) from this site. As is the case of all TEMPOS Vega Sicilia wines, the harvest is by hand and along with the selection on the vine, a double sorting is carried out in the winery. This first removes those bunches that may have been wrongly picked in the field and the second focuses on the substandard berries that are found on optimum bunches. For the 2017 vintage they reduced the new American oak barrel percentage by 5 %, enhancing the effect of the lighter toasts. Malolactic fermentation in barrel was also reduced by 10% with the aim of making the most elegant Pintia possible given the characteristics of this warm vintage. Subsequently, Pintia 2017 has a juicier, sweeter balance, achieving harmony and a silky texture.
