Château Brane-Cantenac | Margaux

Château Brane-Cantenac is a highly-regarded 'Second Growth' (Deuxièmes Crus in the 1855 Bordeaux Wine Official Classification) winery located in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux and is reknown for producing elegant and classic Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wines. It has been in the Lurton family since 1922 and is currently managed by Henri Lurton, who took control in the early 1990s.
The 75-hectare vineyard is planted on gravelly soils over three of the six terraces found on Bordeaux's Left Bank. The most prized plots are located on the "Fourth Terrace" near the château, and these old vines form the basis for the Grand Vin. The estate has been certified organic since 2016. The primary grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and the rare Carménère grape variety. In addition to the estate's Grand Vin the chateau also produces a second wine, Baron de Brane, named in honor of a former owner, Baron Hector de Brane and made to be more approachable in its youth. They also produce Margaux de Brane, a third wine made from the estate's youngest vines and Château Notton, an additional label using grapes from a specific vineyard plot.
