Château Canon | Saint Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé "B"

Château Canon Vineyards in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux

Château Canon is a Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) wine estate located on the limestone plateau just outside the village of Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux. The estate was originally known as Clos St-Martin and was purchased in 1760 by Jacques Kanon, a sailor and privateer, who expanded the property and built the château. The estate was officially renamed Château Canon in 1853 after its founder. Since 1996, the fashion house Chanel has owned Château Canon and has since overseen a major renaissance, elevating the quality and reputation of this elegant and mineral driven wine.

The property's 34 hectares of vineyards have clay-limestone soils, which impart a signature freshness and minerality to the wine and are primarily planted with Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%). Some of the most historic and oldest vines are located within a walled plot, or "clos," near the village. The estate's second wine is called Croix Canon.
