Château d'Armailhac | Pauillac

Château d'Armailhac Grand Cru Classé Property in Pauillac, Bordeaux

Château d'Armailhac is a renowned wine estate located in the Pauillac region of Bordeaux, France. It is classified as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 classification of Bordeaux wines and was previously named Château Mouton-d'Armailhacq. It was purchased by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1933 and renamed in 1956 to Mouton Baron Philippe and renamed again in 1975 to Mouton Baronne Philippe in honour of his late wife. In 1986 Baroness Philippine took the decision to restore its original identity to Mouton d’Armailhacq and giving it the name Château d’Armailhac. Today Baroness Philippine’s children, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild continue the family’s quest for excellence and innovation in the vineyard and winery.

The south facing vineyard of Château d’Armailhac borders Château Mouton Rothschild to the north and spans 80 hectares (198 acres) on three different gravel banks, giving it all the typical features of the Pauillac appellation. The average age of the vines is 40 years.

Château d’Armailhac wines are made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot in proportions which vary according to the vintage, since the ideal conditions that allow each terroir and each grape variety to fully express themselves change from one year to another. Château d’Armailhac has considerable ageing potential but may also be enjoyed young. It is a perfect illustration of the Pauillac style, combining all the features of a great wine while remaining approachable.
