Château Grand Puy Lacoste | Pauillac

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste Vineyards and Winery

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a property in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux and the Grand Vin produced here was classified as one of eighteen Cinquièmes Crus (Fifth Growths) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. Since its acquisition by his family in 1978, François-Xavier Borie has completely renovated the château and its cellars. This has been a long-term project using technical innovation to improve quality and a more refined expression of terroir with each passing vintage.

Grand-Puy-Lacoste's 90 hectares of vineyards are in one block surrounding the substantial 19th century château, primarily on free-draining soils rich in gravel. The vineyards are farmed sustainably, with no insecticides used whatsoever and chemical treatments kept to a minimum. The grapes are harvested by hand (following a painstaking green harvest) and subjected to not one, but two sorting tables prior to de-stemming. Vinification and blending is overseen by a vastly experienced team including François-Xavier Borie and oenologist Eric Boissenot.

Grand-Puy-Lacoste combines marvellous cigar box perfume with rich blackcurrant and cassis fruit and velvety power which is the epitome of top class Pauillac at its very best.
