Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion | Pessac-Léognan

Established over 400 years ago, Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is today one of Bordeaux's most exciting names. The vineyards cover just over 10 hectares and it takes its name from the Carmelite monks that tended it for almost 200 years. Investment from current owner Patrice Pichet over the past decade, alongside winemaker Guillaume Pouthier, who formerly worked with Michel Chapoutier in the Rhône has meant that quality at the property has soared. A brand new, state-of-the-art winery was built in 2016, several new parcels of vines added to increase the size of the estate and a range of work from replanting to slope correcting undertaken. Pouthier employs conscientious vineyard management, everything from hand-harvesting to using horses to plough between the vines.
By blending modern winemaking techniques with practices usually found in other regions, Carmes is at the forefront of shaping a contemporary style of Bordeaux that is approachable at a younger age and tailored to today's trends.
