Clos du Marquis | Saint-Julien
Created in 1902, Clos du Marquis originated from the ‘Petit Clos’ adjacent to the Château de Léoville, home of the Marquis de Las Cases. It is derived from the great terroirs of the Saint-Julien appellation that were not part of the former Léoville estate. Although it is unclassified, it’s neither a classed growth nor a cru bourgeois, it is as sought after as many of its more expensive peers.
The Clos du Marquis vineyard enjoys a privileged position, located in Saint-Julien’s most northernmost point, right next to Château Latour and some of the most prestigious second growths from Saint Julien including Léoville Poyferré, Léoville Barton and Pichon Longueviille Comtesse de Lalande. Plus it is made and owned by the same team behind super-second Léoville-Las-Cases, the Delon family. Clos du Marquis thus displays typical Saint-Julien characteristics: structure, complexity, balance and great ageing potential.
