Completely un-compromised, all the rich and deep flavours come from the ex-Cognac and ex-Bourbon casks that the rum tropically matures in, creating an exquisite, modern and matured spirit that is totally unique. Already, Equiano has won gold at Spirits Selection - Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the International Spirits Challenge, and the San Francisco International Spirits Competition, and at the International Wine and Spirits Competition with 96 points, placing Equiano as one of the best rums in the world for the 8-10 year aged category. On the nose rich, notes of dried fruits such as raisins and sultanas combine with sweet toffee, butterscotch and caramel culminating with a suggestion of orange peel, vanilla and buttered wood. To taste it has a warm toffee and butterscotch mouth-feel, with chewy raisins and brown sugar flavours that emerge from the liquid as it caresses your tongue. Although Equiano is a naturally sweet rum with no added sugar or spices, it has a medium to sweet ending with touches of oak, anise, sweet pepper with a hint of bitter orange peel.
