Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné | Tain L’Hermitage

Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné Vineyards in Hermitage

The legendary name and reputation of Paul Jaboulet Aîné has been built on foundations laid by Antoine Jaboulet in 1834. Having founded a small estate and cellars based in the riverside town of Tain L’Hermitage, and with vines across the famous hill of Hermitage, he began to expand soon after, acquiring vineyards in Crozes-Hermitage close by, including the renowned site of Domaine de Thalabert.

In 2006, the Frey family took over Paul Jaboulet Aîné and talented winemaker Caroline Frey now works with her teams in a single-minded quest for perfection; combining cutting-edge winemaking with the scrupulous care given to vines grown in exceptional terroirs. Following a long tradition in preserving and working the land, the Frey family are pioneers in biodiversity, with a nine-hectare wildlife reserve and ecosystem preservation efforts.

Jaboulet’s most celebrated wine is its famed Hermitage La Chapelle, named after the chapel that overlooks this most celebrated of vineyards. Jaboulet have owned the chapel since the end of the First World War - it’s an icon of this part of the Rhone Valley and marks where the best vines are grown.

Since 2016, the vineyards have been certified AB organic and since 2021 the entire vineyard has been cultivated biodynamically and with a regenerative approach. The variety of soils and multitude of terroirs shape the distinctive character of their wines. Caroline is dedicated to crafting exceptional wines following a philosophy that when the grape varieties are in perfect harmony with the terroir, they reveal their finest expression. These are exquisite wines which beautifully reflect the nuances of their origins.
