Georges Duboeuf | Beaujolais
In 1951, at the age of eighteen, Georges Duboeuf began delivering wine to local restaurants on his bicycle. He has gone on to become one of the most important and influential wine producers in France. Born into a family of growers, he started his eponymous négociant business in 1964, bottling not just the wine from his own vineyards, but that of his neighbours too. It’s not quite a case of poacher turned gamekeeper, though, as Duboeuf has been instrumental in raising the profile of the entire region. Often described as the King of Beaujolais, Duboeuf is also its most tireless ambassador, though his range now extends far beyond that appellation.
