Kooyong | Mornington Peninsula

Port Phillip Wine Estate Winery in Mornington PeninsulaKooyong was established in the late 1990s, but its modern incarnation can be traced to its acquisition in 2004 by the Gjergja family; success duly followed and its growing reputation was cemented in 2012, when it was named as James Halliday’s ‘Winery of the Year’. Given the Mornington Peninsula’s reputation for cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, it should come as no surprise that some inspiration is taken from Burgundy, but these wines are very much examples of the regional style, with freshness, elegance and balance at the fore. The approach both in the vineyards and the winery is minimalist, with the combination of low-input agriculture and low-intervention winemaking producing wines of real character and purity.
