Kosovo
Historically, wine has been produced in this region for nearly 2000 years; however, vineyards were reduced by two thirds as a result of the recent war. Thankfully, the new country is undergoing a period of rebirth with a number of high-quality producers and developing sub-regions coming to the fore.
Kosovo has a warm Mediterranean climate and with a high annual number of sunny days (276) there are optimal ripening conditions across the entire winemaking region. Grape plantings are led by Smederevka, Welschriesling, Vranac, Prokupac, Gamay, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
