Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz 2021
First made in 1959, Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz is Penfolds earliest Bin-range wine named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945. The early releases were single-vineyard wines and Bin 28 was first made while Grange was still being made in secrecy. Today, Kalimna Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented. Matured for 12 months is seasoned American oak hogsheads, Bin 28 displays a heady mix of aromas. At first, back to school memories of black jelly beans, then a gentle spectral gradation to red liquorice and red currants alongside wild raspberry and a red-fruited chutney. The palate is well-balanced with whirling black fruits and flavours akin to a consommé of dried porcini mushrooms, well balanced tannins and subtle tobacco leaf notes.
