MOURVÈDRE

Whether you call it Mourvèdre, Monastrell, or Mataro, this grape is the brooding beast of the Mediterranean. It is a variety that demands heat, sunlight, and patience, rewarding us with some of the most savoury, complex red wines on earth.
The French Connection (Mourvèdre): In France, its spiritual home is Bandol. Here, close to the ocean, it reigns supreme, producing wines that are structured, "meaty," and smell of leather, game, and wild herbs (garrigue). It is also the backbone of many Southern Rhône blends (the 'M' in your GSM), adding dark spice and longevity to the Grenache.
The Spanish Stronghold (Monastrell): Across the border in South-East Spain, it is known as Monastrell. In the baking heat of Jumilla and Yecla, it ripens to perfection, offering a lush, fruit-forward profile with softer tannins and intense blackberry concentration.
The New World (Mataro): In Australia and California, old-vine plantings go by the name Mataro. These wines are often historic treasures—survivors that produce concentrated, spicy, and earthy reds.
From the dry reds of Bandol to the sweet fortified wines of Spain, this collection celebrates the savage elegance of the grape, whatever name it goes by.
