San Leonardo is globally renowned for producing some of Italy's finest Bordeaux-style wines. The Grappa Stravecchia is the magnificent spirit born from the noble pomace of these very grapes (Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, and Merlot). Unlike young, fiery grappas, this "Stravecchia" (Extra Old) expression undergoes a significant aging process in small oak barrels. This long rest transforms the pure distillate into a mellow, sophisticated spirit that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the world's great aged brandies. It is a signature reflection of the Tenuta San Leonardo estate’s dedication to quality, from the vineyard to the bottle. Deep, amber in colour, achieved naturally through its long maturation in oak, the San Leonardo Grappa is highly complex and harmonious in aroma. Expect rich layers of vanilla, dried apricot, tobacco leaf and subtle honey, underpinned by the classic fruitiness of the Bordeaux varietals. The palate is supremely smooth and round, with an exceptional persistence on the finish. Flavors mirror the aroma, offering notes of sweet spice, cacao, and toasted almond. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, offering warmth without harshness. The finish is extraordinarily long and velvety, leaving lingering notes of dried fruit and aged wood. Grappa Stravecchia should be treated like a fine Cognac or single malt Scotch.
