Weingut A. Christmann | Pfalz

Weingut A. Christmann is a 20-hectare estate run by Steffen Christmann and his daughter Sophie, the 8th and 9th generations. Steffen has managed the family estate since 1996 and is a trained winemaker, former lawyer and current president of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) - an organization dedicated to developing quality standards for German wines.
Sophie joined her father’s side in 2018 as his apprentice and right hand after obtaining a degree in viticulture and oenology from Geisenheim University. She worked across the Pfalz, Nahe and Baden in Germany, along with studying in Bordeaux and Australia - worldly experiences that she now applies to Weingut Christmann. She is now involved in all aspects of the estate and has a particular focus on the Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grape.
They have employed biodynamic practices for 20 years to ensure deeper root growth and a natural equilibrium within their vineyards. More recently, they have partnered with Mathieu Kauffmann, former chef de cave of Bollinger, to found the Christmann & Kauffmann sparkling wine estate. A very exciting new project combining sparkling production expertise with intimate Gimmeldingen vineyard knowledge.
