Duffour Père et Fils IGP Côtes de Gascogne 2022/23
Owned by the Duffour family since 1955, Duffour Père et Fils is regarded as one of the best, most consistent estates in central Gascony. A passionate winemaker, Michel Duffour took over in 1973 and spent three decades crafting the estate's wines before passing his knowledge on to his son Nicolas in 2004. Duffour Père et Fils’s 70-hectare vineyard is spread across various sunny, south-facing slopes, resulting in consistent ripening of the fruit alongside excellent drainage. Planted on a combination of clay and limestone, the vines currently have an average age of 30 years old. Unusually for this fertile region, Duffour Père et Fils actively encourages low yields through severe pruning, creating a greater concentration in the final wine. Their excellent value white, a blend of Colombard, Gros Manseng and Ugni Blanc is clean and modern in style without any oak influence. Having undergone a period of lees ageing, it displays more weight and aromatics than many other wines from this area. Bright, pale yellow in colour with aromas of exotic white peach, pineapple and nectarine. There are citrus notes on the palate that are enhanced by a lively acidity. This is a refreshing wine with a good weight and a lasting, clean finish.
