Musella Amarone della Valpolicella 2020
The Musella Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG is a classic, full-bodied red wine made from a blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta grapes. Located in the Veneto, northeast of Verona, in the hill that divides Montorio from the Valle d’Illasi, Musella follows biodynamic principles in its vineyards. To produce this Amarone della Valpolicella only the healthiest and ripest bunches of grapes are harvested and they then undergo a particular drying process (Appassimento) which takes place on special drying racks in naturally, well-ventilated rooms. During this process, the grapes lose at least 40% of their original weight, concentrating sugars, aromatic compounds and noble tannins. In January the grapes are gently pressed and fermentation begins at the low winter ripening temperature (13-17 C). After fermentation the wine is transferred into large oak barrels of various origins for 24 months and then aged for 12 months in concrete tanks. The resulting wine is deep ruby in colour and has a complex bouquet of dried fruits and sweet spices. This full-bodied Amarone has flavours of dried fruit, cherry, spice, chocolate and hints of tobacco.
