Mount Horrocks 'Alexander Vineyard' Watervale Shiraz 2017

Grapes for the Mount Horrocks Shiraz are sourced from the low-yielding vines of the estate owned Alexander vineyard. Strikingly beautiful and isolated, it is located at the extreme north-eastern corner of the Watervale sub-region of the Clare Valley. The vineyard is managed using sustainable natural farming and organic practices. 20% of the grapes were kept as whole bunches and crushed by foot. This portion is pressed, lees settled and run straight into French burgundy barrels for three months on lees. The wine is then taken off lees, barrels washed and returned for further maturation of around 18 months. The other 80% was crushed, destemmed and cold soaked on skins, before fermentation in purpose-built vessels to allow gentle plunging of the cap to extract maximum colour, flavour and tannins. Malolactic conversion took place in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spent 18 months in French oak barriques, of which 40% were new, and the remainder one to two years old. A deep crimson colour with a youthful edge. On the nose, rich aromas of spiced plum with a lick of cedar-like oak. The palate has generous flavours of plush red fruits, dark chocolate and forest with a lingering spice and attractive peppery tannins. It is a stylish new world Shiraz that stands out for its mid-weight texture and juicy acidity.

Delivery Times

We aim to to have your delivery with you within 5-7 working days of receiving your order, but often it can be much sooner. If you need your order by a certain date please get in touch and we'll do our best to get it to you as required.

Vintage Availability

We endeavour to display accurate and current vintages on all our wines listed on the website; however, from time to time stocks of the vintage listed do become exhausted. If this is the case with your order we will always contact you to recommend another vintage of the same wine, if it is still available. If the vintage of a wine is important to you then please leave a note at checkout advising us of this.

Stock Availability

As we are retail stockists, selling from our Ledston shop as well as online, it makes it difficult for us to show a 'real-time' inventory of our wines and spirits online. As such, very occasionally, a wine may be out of stock that the website has allowed you to order.

To ensure a timely delivery, we are happy to substitute your order with a similar wine of equal or higher value and at no additional cost to you!

If this is not an acceptable solution please advise us in the 'Add A Comment' section at the checkout.

96 Points: 2017 Top class for Mount Horrocks. Black fruits are rich, round and succulent, so much so that they overshadow the new oak (without aggression) and tannins. Excellent balance and length.
