Hermanos Peciña Rioja Crianza 2019
The Rioja Crianza is the foundation of the Hermanos Peciña portfolio, offering a perfect introduction to their refined, traditional style of Rioja. While many modern Crianzas aim for power, Peciña's focus is on finesse, balance, and purity - qualities rooted in their high-altitude vineyards in Rioja Alavesa. A blend primarily of Tempranillo, complemented by small amounts of Garnacha and Graciano, sourced from old vines, this Crianza far exceeds the legal aging requirements. It spends approximately 24 months in old, neutral American oak barrels and then a further 18 months in bottle before release. On the nose the wine displays aromas of dried red cherry, wild strawberry, tobacco leaf, and subtle spice from the American oak. The palate is medium-bodied and perfectly balanced. The texture is smooth and supple, driven by lively acidity and fine, silky tannins. The flavours lean towards savory red fruits and dried herbs, leading to a long, elegant finish.
