Château Figeac | Saint Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé "A"
Château Figeac is one of the leading Saint-Émilion estates and in 2022, it was promoted to the level of Premier Grand Cru Classé "A", the highest rank in the official Classification of Saint-Émilion wine. The estate is located in the north-west of the St-Émilion appellation with its vineyards adjoining those of Cheval Blanc.
Its 54 hectares of vineyards lie on a deep, Médoc-like gravel topsoil over a flinty, iron-rich subsoil and are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Unlike most other Saint-Émilion wines which are dominated by the Merlot grape, the wine of Château Figeac with its high Cabernet content, has often been described as the most Médoc-like in St-Emilion.
In 2021 Château-Figeac acquired a new winery covering more than 5,000 m², with two levels underground, it was designed to be consistent with the efforts already made by the Manoncourt family to provide the best possible working conditions and a warm welcome to visitors. Gravity-fed processes are used for vinification and maturing, showing infinite respect for the wine. The harvest is brought in on the ground floor, where the vat-house is located and the wines are then gradually moved under the hill to mature in barrels. The two large underground barrel halls are a haven of serenity in which to mature the wines. Offering peace and quiet, space, thermal inertia and the absence of vibration, the earth which has nourished the vines also protects the wine.
