Emperus' mission is to promote Serbian Šljivovica across the globe and placing it where it belongs - alongside the world's most famous spirits. Emperus are the first distillery in Serbia that undertook the entire process of certification for its products geographical indication and as such Emperus Šumadijska Šljivovica is the first Rakija in Serbia with a certified geographical indication.
Rakija is a strong alcoholic drink produced exclusively from fractional distillation of fermented fruit sugar. It is mainly produced in Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Croatia. It is made from grapes, plums, apricots, pears, quinces, apples, cherries and other fruits. The most famous type of Rakija is Šljivovica, made from plums. It is consumed from small glasses as an aperitif or digestif and it is also used for medicinal purposes. It is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages in civilisation and is the most recognised Rakija in the world. Plum Rakija is one of the most important brands of Serbian production and the best are produced in the central hills of Serbia, where Emperus Rakija originates. It is made from the finest varieties of Šumadija plums, grown in the heart of Šumadija.
