Erdevik Winery | Erdevik
Erdevik Winery is located in the village of Erdevik, in the western foothills of Alma Mons (Fruska Gora). Located 140 metres above sea level Erdevik, with its three lakes, is one of the most beautiful villages in the region of Syrmia and vines were first planted here in 276 AD during the reign of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus.
The Erdevik vineyard covers 40 hectares, in one single block and is planted exactly on the 45th parallel, the same as Bordeaux and Piedmont and thus sharing the same magical potential for the production of fine wines. The 45th latitude, mid-way between the North Pole and the Equator, is the dividing line for wine, most white grapes being grown north of it and red grapes south of it.
As with all great wine regions, rivers play an important role in the production of high quality wines and so it is no surprise that the River Danube has an important moderating influence in the Erdevik wines. The carefully selected vineyard location provides the optimum ripening for the grapes allowing them to achieve perfect sweetness and acidity which allows for the production of excellent 'balanced' wines. The vineyard is planted with several international grape varieties including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah.
