Escudo Rojo | Maipo
Produced by Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile, Escudo Rojo was born in 1999, the result of a marriage of ancestral Bordeaux expertise and exceptional Chilean terroir. Baroness Philippine, the daughter of Baron Philippe, was so impressed with the sheer potential of Chile’s terroir and was fully invested in producing a range of quality and expressive wines that met her exacting standards. The first of these wines was Escudo Rojo, the Spanish translation of the German “Rote Schild” which means red coat of arms. By naming this wine after her, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild signs the Rothschild family’s anchorage in Chile.
Just four years after the launch of Escudo Rojo, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild inaugurated the Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile Bodega in 2003, situated 45 kilometres south of Santiago in the Maipo Valley. The opening marked Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s deep commitment to Chile.
The Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s spirit permeates the production of their Chilean wines through the quest for high quality. Escudo Rojo blends Chilean identity with French style. Fruity and flavourful with soft tannins, these wines are designed to be enjoyed and shared.
