M. Chapoutier Rouge Clair 2024
The 2024 Rouge Clair is Michel Chapoutier’s vibrant take on the modern 'chilled red' style. Moving away from the heavy, powerful reds usually associated with the Rhône Valley, this wine is all about energy and effortless drinking. By keeping the grape skins in contact with the juice for only a very short time, Chapoutier has created a wine with the bright soul of a red and the refreshing crispness of a rosé. In the glass, it is a pale, inviting ruby. On the nose, you'll find an immediate hit of wild strawberries, red cherries, and a faint twist of white pepper. On the nose, it is an explosion of primary energy: wild strawberries, mashed raspberries and that signature hint of white pepper. On the palate, it is crunchy, saline, and unapologetically fresh. It lacks the "ego" of a cellar-aged Syrah, opting instead for a "glou-glou" drinkability that makes it an ideal choice for those who find traditional reds a bit too much in the warmer months.
