Vineyards in the Libournais Wine District of Bordeaux in France

The right bank of Bordeaux's Dordogne River, known as the Libournais district, is red wine country. Dominated by the Merlot grape, the vineyards in this wine region produce deep-coloured, silky and velvety rich wines of classic quality in the St-Émilion and Pomerol regions, in addition to wines of modest quality, but excellent value and character, in the satellite appellations that surround them.

There are a total of 15 AOCs in the Libournais district of which Saint-Émilion is the standard bearer of a celebrated appellation and a village listed as UNESCO World Heritage site.
