Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Maranges Vieilles Vignes 2022
The Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Maranges Vieilles Vignes is a wonderful Pinot Noir from the dynamic winemaking brothers, Marc and Alexandre Bachelet. The Maranges appellation is one of Burgundy's lesser known wine regions, but does offer tremendous value-for-money. Like many top producers in the region, the Bachelet brothers are using a more minimalist approach in the vineyard and keeping things as natural as possible. The grapes are harvested from vines over 50 years old and at the winery there is some whole bunch fermentation with ageing in a mixture of barrel sizes with a small percentage of new oak. This is a polished expression of Pinot Noir with dark cherry and bitter chocolate notes and plenty of powdery tannins. Full of earthy red fruits and displaying admirable concentration, this has the poise and balance of a far grander wine. Terrific value now, this will be even better with a few years in bottle.
