Maison Roche de Bellene | Beaune
Maison Roche de Bellene was founded by Nicolas Potel in 2008 with the aim of being a 'Savile Row', rather than an 'off-the-peg' style of wine négociant. The name Bellene comes from the ancient Gallic God of sun and beauty, Belenos. The city of Beaune was originally known as Belena during the Roman period, and from these historic titles Nicolas drew the name Bellene. The philosophy is unwavering and his focus is on sourcing the best wines and creating a blend that deeply respects both the individual terroirs and the vintage.
Nicolas, being the son of esteemed winemaker Gérard Potel, began his Burgundian education from the youngest possible age, growing up on the family estate at Domaine de la Pousse D’Or, in Volnay before training at Domaine Matrot and Domaine Roumier All of this led him to build up a network of contacts, alongside a reputation, to source the highest quality grapes and wine from top domaines. He continues to use the same sources and maintains the hands-on relationship with the growers he has worked with for almost 30 years.
Along with an eclectic range of Regional, Village and Premier Cru Burgundies, Maison Roche de Bellene offers the largest selection of Grand Cru wines in Burgundy which are available on request.
