Mendel classically combines the prestigious winemaking skills of Roberto de la Mota alongside tremendously old vineyards to make arguably Mendoza’s most elegant wines. Proprietor and long-time wine lover, Anabelle Sielecki, partnered with Roberto to transform her family’s historic 1928 vineyard into the respected estate it is today.

Roberto, son of legendary winemaker Raul de la Mota, has an impressive winemaking record and a lifetime of winemaking education and practice. Having worked for many years at Château Cheval Blanc in Bordeaux Roberto established the Terrazzas de los Andes wine program for Bodega Chandon in 1996. He then undertook the role as winemaker for Cheval des Andes, an ultra-prestigious joint venture between Chandon and Bordeaux’s Chateau Cheval Blanc, before joining Anabelle as winemaker for Mendel Wines.

Together, they choose the best blocks from their ancient vineyards, and every artisan winemaking step is rigorously performed. Extraordinary vineyards, passionate people, experience and friendship are all blended to create these truly remarkable wines.

Mendel is the first name of Anabelle's father, a man who came to Argentina with nothing and ended up a successful businessman in different industries. He was a man that loved the finest things that life had to offer, particularly wine. Anabelle proudly honours her father by seeking perfection in her and Roberto's wines.
