Peregrine Wines | Central Otago, New Zealand
Peregrine Wines is set majestically in the rugged mountainous beauty of Central Otago in the South Island of New Zealand and is committed to enhancing the environment with both their organically certified winery and their ‘hands on‘ involvement in the conservation of New Zealand’s native birds, the Saddleback and Mohua.
Owned and run by the McLachlan family, headed by Lindsay McLachlan, Peregrine were one of the first to establish plantings in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago in 1999, and are now the largest organic vineyard holder in Central Otago. Farming operation plays an integral role in the organic management of the vineyards. Cattle assist with compost, goats and sheep are used for weed control in the winter, and chickens are rotated around the vineyard courtesy of a mobile chicken house, naturally dealing to a range of bugs.
Peregrine produced its first vintage in 1998, and although known as a specialist Pinot Noir producer, it also crafts excellent Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines.
