Rockburn vineyards in Central Otago, New Zealand

Rockburn takes its name from the rugged, rock-strewn, burn-scarred landscape of Central Otago. The region is renowned for its stunning scenery of rugged mountains and picturesque lakes. Rockburn started as the hobby of Richard Bunton in 1991, when he planted 3 hectares of vineyard in the then pretty much unknown area of Central Otago, the world’s most southerly grape-growing region.

By 2005, the vineyards holdings had expanded and Malcolm Rees-Francis joined Rockburn as the new Winemaker, having previously been the assistant Winemaker at Felton Road. Today, simply put, Rockburn is one of the very best producers of Pinot Noir in New Zealand, producing premium wines of intense varietal character. Malcolm has won Young Antipodean Winemaker of the Year and produced a constant string of award winning wines.
