Petra de Valpiedra Rioja 2018
Petra de Valpiedra is an outstanding red wine created as a special tribute to the old Rioja wines made from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape, which was once the queen of Rioja vineyards. In the twentieth century, other grape varieties like Tempranillo, which is easier to care for and has higher yields, have taken Garnacha’s place; however, at Finca Valpiedra they want to recover the grape variety as it is one of the keys to the unique flavour of Rioja. The outcome is a complex wine on the nose and in the mouth, a wine that exudes the full flavours of the perfectly genuine Rioja. Intense red fruit and cassis aromas are complemented with toffee and vanilla nuances from the 16 month maturation in used French oak barrels. Silky-textured and fresh in the mouth, with ample fruit fleshing out the supple structure.
